Giving Thanks for November
|
|
|
It's the time of year where we reflect on the good fortune that has been bestowed upon us. As we prepare for a visit with our families, as we make lists for the grocery store and design our table centerpieces, remember this is a season of thanks, and of giving. On Thursday we will all gather around the table to give thanks for the harvest's bounty.
We at Leap of Joy would also like to give thanks: to all of the kind people who help us: our employees, our volunteers, and our donors.
Without each and every one of you, we would not be able to help and inspire those less fortunate in our community.
So, from each and every one of us at Leap of Joy....

Caps & Mittens is Happening Right Now!
|
|
Every year, Leap of Joy bands together to raise funds for our Caps & Mittens campaign. We aim to give caps, mittens, scarves, socks and toys to the children we teach in the schools.
Most of us take for granted our hats and mittens, the scarf for every outfit, the overflowing drawer of warm socks. But a lot of our students we teach in school can't take it for granted, because their parents are unable to afford these life necessities.
These children are real and live in the Austin community. Helping them get through the winter with warm clothes means their parents have one less burden to bear. Being warm and provided for helps them do better in school, helps them to build skills and helps them succeed in life.
In years past our kiddos have really loved receiving these gift bags. Even a small donation can help us to brighten these wonderful children's day. Please consider donating to our cause!

There has been a hurricane of activity since school began what with taking on new schools and adding teachers and classes, but we are settled now. We were also at ACL’s Austin Kiddie Limits for two three-day weekends . It was so much fun making jingle music shakers with all the kids.
Some of our classes will be ending the first week of December, so we want to get the gift packages to all the kids before they leave. Many will be having their school’s Christmas shows, so we’ll get pictures and videos for that. It’s so exciting for me to go by the schools and watch the kids' performances. They have some great teachers that have worked with them. I’m so proud of our teachers and what they do for the kids we serve.
The kids we work with don’t have the niceties of life let alone the necessities in some instances. Some don’t even get presents during the holidays because their parents would give them everything if they could, but don’t have the money. That’s why we want to start with the bare basics in helping their kids keep warm against the oncoming cold. It’s not much, but they love opening up these gift bags.
Please donate if you can. $10 will provide for one child: a cap, mittens, scarf, socks, small toy and a candy cane.
Lots of fun coming up. Of course, there is our kids’ holiday event at the High Road on Friday, Dec. 20. We are hoping to be starting up our Saturday classes by January, so stay tuned.
Please share the love. Let’s make the world a better place by showing that we care. Happy Thanksgiving.
