This week we want to take a moment to put the spotlight on one of our newest supporters, The Austin Allegro Dance Company. This company of eight talented ladies features experienced dancers coming from all walks of life. Their spirit embodies what we hope our Leap of Joy students will someday exude as they move forward with their arts education. This year will be their first season, and to kick it off, AAD is currently fundraising for their summer showcase through an indiegogo campaign. Moreover, during their showcase AAD will be holding a silent auction where 50% of their proceeds will be benefiting Leap of Joy.

Founded in 2014 by Erin McDonough and Taylor Wasmer, the Austin Allegro Dance Company works with spaces not normally associated with the art form. Their site specific performances engage with the space around them, using architecture, design, and voided space to set the tone for a visceral experience unlike any other currently on the scene. The company is made up of the two co-founders and directors, five dancers, and a dance apprentice: Meghan McGrath, Morgan Eddy, Tiffany Plante, Samantha Martin, Danielle Schager, and Erin Ellis. The dancers in this company all have eclectic backgrounds in dance ranging from: structured classical, ballet, jazz, and lyrical, to musical theater, cruise lines, and professional dance teams in sports. With an impressive resume it’s only a matter of time before this company takes their talents to new heights.

Check out the links below for their Facebook page and like it to keep up to date on upcoming performances. Their website has a complete bio for each of the performers, and a set of beautiful still photographs depicting their dancers using their surroundings as part of their performance. Their indiegogo campaign will be running through until March 31st. Please consider donating to this troupe on the rise, and remember to keep dancing!
