Happy New Year everyone! We ended 2013 on a high note at Leap of Joy. We worked with over 200 kids in 12 schools last year and look forward to going full speed in 2014. With new classes opening up we will be able to cater to even more students, opening up and enhancing their lives with the arts. This will include a brand new class at Hart Elementary: Costume and Set design. By integrating different elements of the performing and visual arts our Leap of Joy kids will enjoy a well rounded educational experience.

Closing out the school year we had several holiday performances from our creative kids. Over at Hart Elementary we had a spectacular performance of The Grinch. The kids designed a Who-ville set, choreographed two dances, and successfully depicted the true meaning of this holiday season through dance and pantomime. Our next big event will be the AISD city wide showcase where the kids will show-off their skills to not only other Leap of Joy students, but to a large segment of the Austin educational community. On May 30 our kids will perform in Care to Dance our 2nd Annual showcase and fundraiser for the year. Last year we went way beyond capacity at the Boyd Vance Theater at the Carver Center and we are bursting with excitement to get started on all of our set pieces for these events.
As we move and grow into the new year, one of our wonderful Leap of Joy teachers has transitioned into new and exciting adventures: Miss Maia McCoy moved to New York City to pursue her dance, educational and movement career. Though we are very sad to see her go, it’s incredible that this beautiful soul is able to continue learning and growing through the arts much in the same way she has taught our students. If you would like to leave well wishes and luck for Maia, please post on our Facebook page and we will be sure to pass along the message.

A special thanks to all of you. It’s such a privilege to know that so many people believe in what we are doing here at Leap of Joy. This coming February we will be sending out a monthly newsletter highlighting different events, milestones, news, and more to everyone on our mailing list. If you would like to sign up, send us a message with your e-mail address. We hope that you have a wonderful new year.
